Add a Visible Signature to a PDF — Draw or Upload an Image
Signing PDFs electronically has become standard practice for contracts, agreements, forms, and approvals. Yet most tools that offer this feature require you to create an account, upload your document to their servers, and sometimes pay a subscription.
PDFGem adds a visible signature mark to one selected page. You can draw it or upload a PNG/JPEG image, choose its size and position, and download a new PDF copy. The original file is not changed.
This is not certificate-based digital signing. PDFGem does not verify who placed the mark, create an audit trail or timestamp, or provide cryptographic proof that the document has not changed.
How to sign a PDF with PDFGem
- Open the Sign PDF tool.
- Drop your PDF into the upload area.
- Create your visible signature using one of two methods:
- Draw — Use your mouse, trackpad, or touchscreen to write your signature.
- Upload — Select a PNG or JPEG image of a signature.
- Place one mark — Select a page, set the width, and click the desired position. Each operation writes one image to one page.
- Download your signed PDF.
Electronic signatures: what you need to know
Legal effect depends on the process
Laws in many jurisdictions recognize electronic signing in some contexts, but that does not make every pasted signature image sufficient. The document type, consent, identity evidence, recordkeeping and recipient requirements all matter. A visible PDFGem mark is only one part of that context, and PDFGem cannot determine whether it satisfies a particular legal or business process.
When a visual mark is not enough
If the recipient requires identity verification, an audit trail, a trusted timestamp, certificate-based tamper detection, witnesses, notarization or a qualified signature, use a service designed for that requirement. PDFGem offers none of those verification features.
Privacy matters
Documents you sign often contain sensitive information — employment contracts, medical authorizations, financial agreements. PDFGem's Sign PDF tool processes files directly in your browser, so your document is not uploaded to any server.
After signing
Once signed, you might also want to:
- No flattening step is needed — PDFGem already draws the signature image into the PDF page content. Its Flatten tool only handles supported AcroForm fields.
- Merge with other documents — Combine signed pages with other files.
- Convert to PNG — Create an image of the signed page for records.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the visual signature legally valid?
That depends on the jurisdiction, document, agreement between the parties, and evidence surrounding the signing process. PDFGem does not verify identity or legal validity. Use a compliant certified workflow or legal advice when required.
What is the difference between this mark and a digital signature?
PDFGem draws a visible signature image into the PDF page. It does not use a certificate, verify identity, create an audit trail or timestamp, or provide cryptographic tamper detection.
Can I add multiple signatures to one PDF?
The tool places one signature image on one selected page per operation. To add another mark, download the result and run that new copy through the tool again.
Does signing modify my original PDF?
No. PDFGem creates a new signed copy. Your original file remains unchanged.
